I really thought it was great Johnny was producing diecast models that was very close to some of my fav 1:1 cars I owned in the day...

Another one was my 66 Mustang. I could have used a Johnny 66 Stang casting, but came across a Welly casting in bad need of a resto job...

Steve tell me about the yellow Mopar, not the Dart or is it the Swinger? What was the power curve? I like that gold 66 Mustang Coupe. Thanks for the story and pictures and if you want tell me more about any of them. I use to have a 65 Mustang Coupe with a junkyard 200 six cylinder with three on the floor.

I wanted to paint my 68 coupe Meadowlark Yellow way back when, got to the primer stage and had to let the car go.

Not real sure what you're asking Daniel, but be glad to let ya know what I know...
The Mopar with the double black side stripes was a 1971 340 Dodge Demon. It was built to run Super Stock class and ran in the mid 11 second bracket on the slicks. Got much better traction out of the gate. Could only get low 12s on the L-60 15inch street tires. I ran a Carter Thermoquad 4bbl carb and replaced it with a 3 deuce tri power set up (6 pack). I lost a little throttle response and some RPMs on the top end, so went back to the 4bbl carb... The tri power delivered 900 cfms of fuel and the jetted 4bbl delivered 1,050 cfms of fuel. Every little bit helped...LOL
I worked for Jegs at this time and had allot of help with dyno~tuning and sponsorship in the NHRA Spring Nationals that year...

The one with the full black hood was a 1972 340 Plymouth Duster, but I replaced the 1972 engine with a 1971 340 engine. The good ole' government stuck their nose in the muscle cars in 1972 and made all the auto manufacturers cut the compression ratios in the high performance cars. The performance between the 71 and the 72 340 engines was unbelievable. Chrysler also switched the 4bbl carbs from the high performance Thermoquad to the Carter AFB. It gave ya less fuel.

1971 Thermoquad carb:
The secondaries were huge and you knew it when they opened up and began dumping the fuel in...
Also the carbon fiber fuel bowl was suppose to keep the fuel cooler for deliverance to the engine. Colder fuel made more horsepower...

1972 AFB carb:
The secondaries were much smaller in this carb and was suppose to save fuel, so ya didn't get as much fuel when ya stomped it to the floor...LOL

The tri power set up was very impressive looking, but not much for the real performance compared to what ya got from the single 4bbl Thermoquad. Also they were a "REAL PAIN" to keep adjusted equally...

Although I am a Ford man and a Stangfreak, I have to say those 1971 Mopar 340s were the most powerful street machines to hit the streets stock for stock. I owned a few Boss 302 Mustangs and my uncle was a 1969 Z/28 302 Camaro freak. When we raced Camaro against Mustang it was a toss up who crossed the finish line first. When we raced Camaro against my 340 Demon or my 340 Duster, he never beat me. I even spotted him two cars against the Demon and still blew his doors off. Ticked him off to the max...LOL
From my experiences on the street and strip, those 340s in 1971 to 1969 were real race engines in disguise in my book...
