Found a Target; Generic Fire/EMS/Police

I found these sets on the "Toy Shop" end cap in a local Target today. These look like the generic MBX rip off that were once sold under the Wham-O brand at 5 Below. The sets are $6.00 each.
They had these two Fire sets, I passed on both as the trucks are just out there for me (was hoping a set would have the rip off of the International Brush Truck with AA Guns).

The only Police set in stock, better choices of models.

The EMS set, I picked this up because I liked the car.

They also had four different construction sets, so i assume there may be more variations of all the sets.

Yes, the store I was in had four different construction sets. I did not photograph them, but will next time I visit the store.

Cool - will see what I find at my local Target later this week. When I was in Grand Forks last weekend there was nothing like these in the toy area on any of the endcaps so maybe new stock.

Brian - what part of the store are you finding these in Target?

PJ,

Usually near the Toy Dept (but one local store has it near the food section) they have an end cap with "junk toys" and some bright bannering that says "TOY SHOP" at the top. It seems to face a main aisle in all the local stores, so if you do the race track and the center cut through you should eventually come upon it.

Found this online, some use different colors.

Thanks Brian - I do the "race track" in most big box stores as part of my recovery therapy is walking and those stores provide a good place for that. :D

I've checked our two Targets and haven't seen anything like these anywhere....but wasn't doing the "race track" thing, though I need to do more of that when visiting any stores.....for the exercise (been binge-watching HBO shows this weekend during the "free trial" on my satellite system...and sitting on my rear end too many hours in a row....)

They had these two Fire sets, I passed on both as the trucks are just out there for me (was hoping a set would have the rip off of the International Brush Truck with AA Guns).
That International Brush Fire Truck with the AA battery on top was a holy grail for me, too. I finally found them on Aliexpress earlier this year....but it would have been nicer to find it in a local store....and cheaper, too.

I showcased them after I found them....and there were a bunch of Matchbox-copies in the various sets. I also note these are the same castings used in larger sets I found at Rite Aid a few years ago (which did not contain the desired Brush Fire Truck....).

Never saw any of them in the Wham-O packaging, but used to search ebay for those and saw some of them, but again, no Brush Fire Trucks.

That "tank turret" cannon on top of the Road Raider is a pretty strange conception of what a "deck gun" should look like....guess the makers had a bunch of left over army tank parts and figured the little tots wouldn't know the difference...but then again, Jada had some 'battle' vehicles that had police and fire dept liveries but also heavy machine guns mounted somewhere on board. The one I remember most was a licensed pickup truck with an intimidating two-barrel gun mounted in the bed pointed to the rear....I guess to "enforce" the "Keep Back 300 Feet" tradition....

I've searched both local Targets from tip to toe and nothing like these to be found. But since I already have all the fire vehicles shown, not missing them too much. But that EMS set you added is one I would add if I saw it....(no need to special order from you Brian...but if I see it I'll bring it home mainly for that "New Type" ambulance....I love it when the Chinese makers throw English words on something just to make it seem more...American?)

I worked the Black Friday detail at Target today and of course checked out the toy aisle prior to the store opening. Nothing new unfortunately.

These generics were on an end cap next to the toy section (between toys and baby items). At this store the colors were purple and dark blue and instead of saying Toy Shop said Gift Bag Starters.

but you are right
They do look like the Wham-O ones & the ones that Menard's had out last Xmas

the ones Menard's has were 2 feet long playset packs

The fire dept chopper is the Batcopter that Hot Wheels put out

I just found some of these vehicles individually packaged, imported by Hunson (like the UN Tundra in the other thread), in a local dollar store. I picked up the Desert Thunder clone with the Police Swat tampos (Its actually pretty nice!) and a fire truck, along with a Jeep Wrangler clone. There was also some of the other vehicles (Mostly the helicopters, the expedition clone, and the police car) in similar and other liveries.

It is nice to know that some of them can be found as singles - may have to just make the rounds next time I am in the city of the dollar stores and Target and...

Ah, I remember not so long ago when there were multiple independent dollar stores competing locally with both DT and Family Dollar. Then DT bought the Family Dollar chain and converted most of their stores to DT, and the locally-owned independent stores all went out of business. End of competition in this region. I'll grant that DT is a consistent stocker of Matchbox cases, so we're actually better off in general now, since those other stores mostly carried the cheapest Chinese-made pancake cars and sets like the ones pictured, with one or two vehicles in a package. But outside of RiteAid, there just aren't too many sources of cheap diecast like this around here any more (and it's NOT cheap when Rite Aid carries it....) DT carries the mostly-plastic construction vehicles next to the Matchbox pegs, but that's about it.

I also fondly remember when Big Lots had GOOD 5-packs of Chinese-made emergency vehicle sets...I got some really cool ones for less than a couple of bucks at Big Lots, and maybe some at the closed "Liquidation Sales" stores that used to be here. (This is not counting the great 5-packs that KB Toys used to carry...I think I have 5 different fire dept 5-packs that were KB exclusives. And, no, they weren't made by Maisto, though there's no real brand name I can associate with the makers.)

With every trip to Target these Grin Studio sets seem to offer me something new:

Another Fire Set, I passed on this one since I had the Chief's car and the other vehicle I am really not sure what it is, reminds me of something out of Disney's Test Track ride.
Posted Image

I also grabbed this EMS set, the Ambulance is a copy of the Boley HO scale model right down to the box sitting a bit high (Boley's box was a copy of the Trident HO scale ambulance box). Glen, this was the only one, I will try to find one for you if you like?

I found another ems set today (first I'd seen at Target of any of these sets). Has a bus for one of the "buses"....and the bus has the "New Type" lettering like the Sprinter or Previa (or whatever van that is in one of your earlier photos). And I grabbed the same fire set you showed in the above post...because of that dune-buggy-looking thing...and grabbed one with the Road Raider and it's cannon/turret because it is so weird (turns out it wasn't in the larger sets I found at Rite Aid years ago). Each store must have the leeway to put these sets in any form of display they choose; these were buried in a back wall area with "stocking stuffers", though the boxes would hardly fit inside a "Christmas stocking" hanging on the chimney/hearth. Took about 5 minutes of walking along that entire back wall from toys through the actual Christmas section before I went back toward toys and found them kinda hidden away with a bunch of other stuff.

Here are photos:

The 4th(?) EMS set....

And, this Tonka 3-pack was hanging on the pegs in the "vehicles" aisle:
Posted Image

I'm not a fan of the "Homies"-style police and fire cruisers Tonka/Hasbro is using....just a bit too much. And the main draw in this set is the "Fire Bulldozer", but I like the white/black "70th Anniversary Fire Truck" to go along with all the other recent Tonka (too big for 3-inch) fire apparatus.

Posted Image
Get what I mean about "Homies"-style? Remember those "Homies" cars and figures that were in stores 5 or more years ago? This looks like it came from the same swamp....

Posted Image

Posted Image
I guess this is a firefighting "Kill Dozer".... seems to me the very large-scale Fire Bulldozer they had a couple of years ago was used as the prototype for this 4-inch casting...I almost bought the giant one, and it's fellow fire helicopter, back when they were in stores because they were more-or-less wildland firefighting related...but their giantness was too much for my ever-shrinking storage and display and play space in the house.

Posted Image
The actual dozers I've seen or worked near had 3 "rippers" on the back....that single 'blade' would make several passes necessary for any 'ripping' job...

Posted Image
We've seen this particular model before in this line, but I don't remember it being white/black....though a couple of the fire engines released had at least part of the cab in black...

Lots of diamond-plate on this one, huh? Like Liev Schreiber's character in the Wolverine movies says (was he "Victor Creed" in that movie?), "Ooh, shiny".

Happy December, everyone!

Two trips to Bismarck in recent weeks and time has simply not allowed for a Target stop to see if they have any of these.. Hopefully one of these trips will allow time for some toy shopping and I can swing by Target and see what they might have - be it in the Christmas section or toy section or - well - will do a walk about when the chance is there and see what I can find. Anyone - hoping to find some of those little ambulance sets.
