I am so very glad to see the Johnnys on the shelves again. Even at 5-6 bucks a car I am still buying them. Maybe not an arm full at a time, but as I can afford them. There have been a few more companies out there release more accurate and more detailed castings in the last several years, and I do buy some of those as well. But somehow, someway I seem to have a kind of a bond to the Johnnys. I have collected diecast cars since the early 60s, but during the late 70s and almost all the 80s, the castings got kind of goofy and I lost almost 100% interest. It was the release of the early Johnny Muscle Cars that drew my attention back all the way... ![]() Then they improved the castings and variety grew as well, I kinda began going nuts again with these... ![]() My collection took a huge growth through those years, and even through the Tomy years. Johnny will always be the leader in the diecast world to me. They always had the widest variety and series of castings and was hard for me to keep up with them all. I did try my all~time best. Just love seeing Johnnys on the pegs and shelves again and hope to see some of the old series back again like the kit cars and the dioramas!!! ![]() These "Whacky" ones also always caught my eye as well!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() LOVE my Johnnys old and new!!! ![]() |

I also had the JL affliction, beginning with those early Muscle Cars series. As they transformed into better castings and more realistic models I wondered why I collected those earlier ones. It was those more realistic models beginning With the Tri-five Chevies and Classic Chrome series that I lost control, eventually numbering over 850 pieces! Last year I was able to release maybe 100 of them to a diecast flea vendor. Upon the re-release of JL, I vowed not to let myself get out of control again, but admit I am a completist for a few favorite castings. It's tough! |

Johnny Lightning does have a variety of themes and series. I previously limited myself to 1/64 Hot Wheels and Matchbox mainline price range till I started dipping into Johnny Lightning and that's how I started collecting more premium die cast. Thanks for sharing. |
