Well, today I had a little more time to work on this project... used the Dremel to take the silver panel off of the back of the cab. After that I ran it on a file to smooth it out -

Posted Image

That allowed the cab to sit down properly onto the chassis -

Posted Image

still have that gap above the cab in the front and the gap above the rear bumper that I am going to have to figure out how to fill -

Posted Image

But I can't complain, it seems to be fitting together pretty well so far. I'll post some more pics tomorrow if I get a chance to work on it some more.

Sammy,

Try looking in to Plastruct or other they make all sorts of sheets of various materials (such as block or brick walls) in 1/87, 1/64 and so on so you maybe able to find diamond plate for the rear step area. If you have a good hobby shop, especially one that specializes in Model Railroading tend to stock a lot of Plastruct sheets,

It almost hurts to see that particular casting taken apart....one of those models I wish stayed in the motor pool at Mattel so we could get more variations of it's liveries....I never found the one that wasn't "Trucksville"....can't even remember what the 'city' name was on that vary....so I only have the Trucksville and the "Base" military vary in slime green...

Can't wait to see the finished model, Sammy!

OK, time for an update.

In looking at the new Medic Resue rig, it has box mounted light above the cab, but nothing actually mounted on the roof -

Posted Image

which obviously is not the case with the cab of the Ford chassis -

Posted Image

so, the light bar is attached to the roof of the cab with two pegs that are fused with the windshield plastic -

Posted Image

easy enough to fix with a small drill bit -

Posted Image

Once the lighter was removed I was able to pull the windshield out -

Posted Image

Next was the hood which came out after a little bit of persuasion -

Posted Image

That led the with only the "engine compartment" to remove, which popped out easily -

Next step is going to be prepping it for paint since the new design is all red with our new department logo, Just beginning to experiment with the red paint -

So, in the meantime it's to the lacquer thinner vat for this guy -

Well, progress has been slow but time for another update...

after the initial soak, for some reason I was surprised that the cab had a base coat of all red paint under the white roof paint -

Posted Image

after a bit more soaking it was starting to clean up pretty well -

The holes in the roof of the cab were no longer needed (as the new rig does not have a light bar on the roof) so, I had to come up with a way of filling the holes.

Considered a bunch of different products and decided to give JB Weld a try -

Posted Image

just had to mix it up -

Posted Image

and apply the product -

Posted Image

and smooth it out a bit -

Thanks guys, I let the JB Weld epoxy dry overnight and then hit it with some 600 grit sandpaper. Smoothing out pretty well -

Posted Image

I may make another pass at it with the epoxy and do a bit more sanding.

Looks like that project is coming along pretty well. I bet that MBX cab would match up well with any of the boley boxes- about the same size, and they have more detail than the SLO MBX. I never tried it though. Of course, you can make the MBX box look pretty good with some paint. Looking forward to seeing the finished product...
