Ultra Raw Gulf Ford GT40 and updated complete AW GT40 collection

I did it again. When Auto World came out with the Ford GT40 I was instantly hooked. I had to have all the versions, and was able to get the Ultra Raw of the first release, which I have posted here before. Last year Auto World came out with 6 new versions of the GT40 and now this year they added yet another. And lo and behold this version had an Ultra Raw. So not only was it a GT40, a car I love. And not only was it an Auto World, a casting I love, but it was also a Gulf livery model, one of my main collections. So this one was shouting my name. Most are probably aware, but the Ultra Raws are only one of 10. So I knew there wouldn't be many popping up for sale, and I jumped at the first one listed and thankfully my best offer was accepted.

And here it is:

But this just won't do. I had to open the first one to truly appreciate it and I've never regretted it for a minute. And I couldn't dream of keeping this one carded too when I already had the other loose. So out came the scissors and she was set free. This time I made a video of the opening process, as well as a run down of all the GT40's. You can watch it here.

https://youtu.be/Bi0muKar0fs

You may recall seeing on the Lamley Group that John got an Ultra Raw Kingswood and opened it up as well (which was an awesome video you should go back and watch if you haven't seen it). Bob Fellows also has an extensive collection of loose Ultra Raws. So while not exactly common, there are more of these loose than you might think given the rarity. I convinced a local friend to open up his two Ultra Raws, which he also says he doesn't regret.

So now on to the pictures. I apologize for the picture quality on some, my phone's camera sensor can't seem to figure out if it wants to turn the lighting blue or yellow:

And the now complete and up to date Auto World GT40 family:

And here is a breakdown of all the different versions. First, the original release. From Release 1 Licensed Premium series. It came in blue and red, and then had the Ultra Red and Ultra Raw.

Posted Image

Then came the 2017 Premium Release 2 that was sold at retail outlets. There was a Gulf inspired version and a white version. Both versions used an Ultra Red based on the Gulf one.

Posted Image

Then came a Hobby Exclusive set. It featured another Gulf inspired version, with no roundel or racing number. And a sharp looking plain black with gray stripe. Each of these had unique Ultra Reds.

Posted Image

After that was a MiJo Exlusive set. This featured another Gulf inspried car, with the roundel but no number as well as a brilliant black version inspired by the 1966 LeMans winning GT40 MkII. These also had unique Ultra Reds. Despite my love of Gulf models, this black version and it's corresponding Ultra Red are I think the nicest basic version and the nicest Ultra Red version.

All three of the prior Gulf inspired versions lacked an actual Gulf logo. Finally, for 2018, they released a MiJo exclusive version that is an actual Gulf licensed model. Not only that, but it is a tribute to the #6 Mirage body GT40 that Jacky Ickx and Jackie Oliver won the 1969 LeMans with. And with this release, the Ultra Raw is back! I do not believe there were Ultra Raw versions of the other three releases, but if I'm wrong, I sure would love to see pictures of them.

Fantastic! Makes me feel ashamed about pretty much every carded car in my collection

The only two I have ever found are the blue and red first release. It's a great casting and seeing them all together is awesome.

Awesomes photos of an awesome collection! This Ultra Raw GT40 looks great!!

I think it may have been discussed before, but what's the difference of the Ultra Reds in the first few series (Release 1 & 2)? From the photos the A & B versions seem identical. [EDIT - watched the video and got my answer!!]

Awesome! Packaging is wayyyyy over rated, takes up too much space and takes the fun out of owning it. Much like those clear plastic seat covers people chose to protect their cars' upholstery while mother nature rendered the rest of the car into a pile of ferrous oxide a few years.

...oh that's right you live in Texas.

I am very, very happy for ya and that is one awesome collection of GT40s ya got going there... Very sweet!!!
I still ain't too sure about that 1 of 10 for the raws though. I found one the exact same time I fount the Ultra Red of these Buicks long ago.
If these are suppose to be 1 of 10 cars distributed in the whole world, there is absolutely "NO WAY" on this God's Green Earth I am that lucky. I never have figured that one out...
A sincere congratulations to you though... That is really, really awesome!!!

Thanks everyone! And Steve you really are that lucky! That one was from the first mix so not everyone knew what they were yet. The very first car they did (Hennesey Camaro) I suspect may have mistakenly had 20 Raws instead of 10, but the rest j firmly believe are only 10. Someone's gotta find them and you were that lucky guy in the right place and time.

Simply fantastic - and glad to see that you were able to add to the GT40 collection! If I were to ever find an Ultra Raw (which is not likely), I don' think I could ever bear to open it. So kudos to you for doing so!

On a side note, the #27 white GT40 really stands out to me. Can't say that I even knew of that one being released.
