Just got this 5 pack today for mainly the fire chief and wrecker, and I know the fire chief in this design was used before, but what I'm wondering, actually hoping for, is if there is some sort of notable variation between this release and the past one......I really don't want to have spent more than $5 just for a stink'n generic tow truck, even though I like it alright. ![]() ![]()

The wrecker and the tow truck are the two I would want also. Maybe the fork lift for a junk yard dio, but I wouldn't say ya lost out... That wrecker and FC car are sweet and probably be worth 2.50 each to me anyway... |

It'd be worth it for me too Steve, I'm just worried I already have the chief car from when it was released a couple years ago, unless it's a variation, then it is good with me. Maybe I'll do a search through my 5 packs when I get home and try to compare them. |

Doug, To the best of my knowledge the Chief’s buggy is a new design that has not appeared before. I checked my collection, as well as Public Safety Die cast website and can not find a previous version in the same graphics. I pulled the trigger on the set for the Chief’s car only, and figured my kiddies will gladly take the rest off my hands. |

While the 20-pack isn't open, so I can't confirm absolutely, there is a chief's buggy in almost identical livery....and I believe it's the same car...but all diecast without the plastic bumpers and lower half.... Got to get to my morning breakfast so I'll try to update later...its a 2015 copyright on the package. Might be that issue between having a Crown Vic or Interceptor....but the overall exterior paint/deco looks identical to the one in the 5-pack... |

Yeah, I checked my 5 packs when I got home Brian, and the closest thing I found was a 2012 5pk I believe it was, but only similar zig zag stripe, not the same, but I may have missed the issue you're thinking of Blair, or have the 5pk in the wrong location at home, because when I first seen this set on the peg my thought was that chief looked awfully familiar, so I'm still unsure. |

It IS the same livery (slight modification for the different castings) on two different cars: the 20-pack has the Interceptor in metallic dark red; the 5-pack has a 2006 Crown Vic in 'fire engine red'. The 'badge' on the Interceptor's doors is larger than the same badge on the CV's doors.![]() As you can see on the CV, it looks like they didn't adjust the overall length of the tamp, though they changed the size of the badge. The tamp appears to have been designed to fit the Interceptor and then used again with mods for the later CV. The 20-pack has a copyright date of 2015 on the back, so probably a 2016 release. The 5-pack was copyrighted 2017.... [I had to open BOTH packages....I hope you're happy.... ]Now the question is: Did either one of these get released as singles in the main line? I haven't seen a CV in that livery as a single (as far as I can remember--it would take some time to dig thru my semi-organized 66-qt tubs)....but if it's a 2018 5-pack, perhaps we're gonna see one this year? The one in the 20-pack, by the simple fact I don't have it as a single, tells me it was "exclusive" in the 20-pack though nothing was indicated that way on the package. Thanks for the pics Blair, I'm ok with it being a whole different car casting, but your comparison reveals what I must have been thinking of when I thought it looked all too familiar. I wasn't even looking for other vehicle types in my 5,packs, and the only CV was what I mentioned as from a number of years back, and different tampos. Don't remember seeing either as singles, can't even remember the last time they released any fire chief as a single, thinking that the older CV casting might have been at one time years ago. |

I liked all the vehicles in this five pack. I especially liked the fire chief's car. Here's what I did with it. ![]() |

Daytime Dave, nice job on the enhancements...the antenna is a nice touch (I have some scale "antennas" sold commercially as such, somewhere). Have you seen the transparent acrylics (both red and blue) that can make those lightbars pop and still be see-thru? Tamiya is one brand name of such colors. Here's an example from one of my customs: ![]() There are also transparent enamels from Testors (amber for turn signals, etc). The 'see-thru' nature of the 'paints' is difficult to see...but you can see that the paint leaves the lenses look like 'glass' or the plastic on the real thing... And another one from the same project, showing the taillights with amber turn signals and brake lights with the Tamiya "clear red"... and the lightbar for that agency's rigs:

Thanks b2young. I like what you've done there. I've not heard of them before. I'll track some down. Thank you! |

I just saw a different five pack on ebay, one of the fire 5-packs called "Fire Brigade" with the "Hiway Fire Truck", the "Flame Smasher" wildfire tanker, the Trail Tracker rescue ATV, the revised "2006 Fire Engine" whatever it's called now, and the Interceptor in exactly the same livery as the one in the 20-pack I showed... That's not too unexpected; having the same 'exclusive' casting/livery in both a 20-pack and a 5-pack are fairly common. So, Doug, you may have seen the Interceptor in the 5-pack rather than caught a glimpse of it in the 20-pack. I just have the 20-pack a few feet from my desk so it was easy to check; my Fire Brigade 5-pack is packed in a tub at the bottom of a pile of tubs. |

I have the Interceptor from last year's five pack - keep meaning to pick up this one with the red Interceptor and then put the other four models in the flea market. |
