Er, don't get too excited. On a very positive note, the '61 Dodge Phoenix is coming back. One will be white/blue interior, and the other will be black w/red interior. No word yet on the other cars in this release. Now for the bad news - release 2 won't be out until August. |

Facebook has pics. The white looks real nice. Ultra red has red tires and ultra raw has gray(silver?) tires. i don't collect the ultras, but i definitely don't like the colored tires. |

You and me both. And the kicker? The PR spokesperson for AW said that it's been an oft-requested feature to add to the chases. Uh, no thanks. On a better note about Release 2, it should see the debut of at the very least the Buick wagon, and maybe even the '62 Impala. And I am elated to see the Phoenix back. Just yesterday, I was wondering when we might see the Phoenix rise again. And I agree - phooey to the colored tires. |

I'm more a fan of the fact that they did an obscure car like the Phoenix than of the model itself. I encourage more of that behavior. Curvy cars are hard to scale down correctly (how many Corvette Stingrays are out there that just seem off?). |

I was hoping for some metallic colors on the Phoenix and the tires are ugly. I ordered my 2018 REL 1 cars yesterday and August does seem far off for REL 2 but maybe some Hobby Exclusives will pop up meantime. |

Release 2 is not due until AUGUST now?!?!? They posted updated images of the Buick Estate wagon to their Facebook back on January 26th, and said that it would be part of Release 3 due in July. I'm not sure what is happening here, but hopefully this doesn't mean that the Estate wagon will be pushed back even further. Also hoping that this isn't an indication that they are having cash flow issues, or other behind the scenes problems. I still feel that they wasted unnecessary amounts of money to resurrect Johnny Lightning from the dead at the expense of moving Auto World forward. Johnny Lightnings were great at the time, because they were more detailed than other offerings. Auto World has moved the bar with even more detail, and true 1:64 scale. I'm just not interested in going back Also, agree with previous comments about the colored tires, definitely not for me. I'm not sure where they got the idea that was what collectors were looking for? Anyway, as for these Darts... I do like the white/blue one, and will give one a home whenever that may be. |

I too wish they would really focus on AW over the other two. JL is definitely doing well for them, but surely someone on the team has to realize that 8 recolors of the same car is not the way forward. I can at least appreciate what they're trying to do with these hold overs, but if they have a Nissan license for JL to rehash that horrible old 280ZX casting, then surely it would be advantageous of AW to make good use of that by tooling up their own 280ZX casting. |

Kind of anxious to see the Phoenix in more classy attractive colors. Maybe a two tone color combo...

I don't believe the Phoenix was available in two-tone, but I wouldn't mind being proven wrong. |

The Ditzler paint chart for 1961 Dodge/Dart list two tones, different for 2 or 4 doors. Basically top in second color but "color-sweep" is also mentioned. |

Does anyone happen to have pictures of these they could share? I have really liked how AutoWorld has done their chase models, this colored tire change has me slightly concerned (Even though I'm barely lucky enough to find chase models already )

I hope the grills are not completely blacked out. |

My thoughts exactly. The first release of these had beautifully detailed grilles. Some other die cast names have gone this simple route of black-out grilles to cut costs presumably. I hope not AW! |

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!

I, for one, am thrilled the chase cars will now have colored tires. It means I don't need them in my collection and can put my resources towards other cars instead.

The headlights are a lot bigger on this car than I remember. Or maybe they just look that way due to the blacked out grille. |

Chase cars are meant to me funky. If they looked normal---they wouldn't really be anything to chase. Just another regular car... I would say that I would like them to be as flamboyant as Elton John.

Chase cars, yes. Chase cars with funny-colored tires . . . Heck no! I once gave away a chase Cougar because the recipient liked Cougars and I didn't like it's green tires. Edited by corvairjim, Jul 2 2018, 10:51 PM.
