So, what do you make of this?

Card art doesn't exactly match what's in the blister....but the overall deco matches....

See, there's this "light bar" on the roof in the illustration....

but nothing on the model....and as far as I can tell (very small print on the tampo print of the 3 trees) no indication this is an "emergency vehicle livery"...

Are we going to get this model as an obvious "emergency vehicle" in future releases? Or has the art department decided to forgo depicting what's in the blister, like back in the "olden days"?

Or was there plan to do a fire chief's unit (perhaps licensed), plans fell through (perhaps due to a licensing agreement that didn't work out), and they ended up changing it last minute?

I see nothing that would make this an emergency model, more like a unit used to advertise a four-wheeler lodge (which for some reason is all the politicians around here can get to come to this area as opposed to industry).

Interesting - like the light bar in the picture but the tampo does nothing to make one think emergency vehicle but one can always hope down the road something might develop! ;)

When a sneak peek was shown on the Matchbox World Instagram account of this model (along with the Civic and Plymouth), the caption mentioned "I spotted an error already but too late, already baked." I'm thinking this might have been what they were referring to.

I'd sure like that vehicle to have a light bar. In red, it's a great fire chief or rescue squad. In blue or black and white it's a great police SUV. The light bar as pictured would be great.

Ah-Ha! That might explain it!

I guess they print the short and long cards at the same time? Or at least, the orders for each were in already when they realized the error...

Since I do like this old expedition anyway, and the graphics aren't bad, it is ok with me, but of course it would have been better IMO to use the one with the lightbar, except it looks like the last time they used the lightbar version in the basic range was back in 2012, and now I guess it makes too many parts for these days, unless they modify the casting to incorporate it into the window insert, but they may have decided on doing some cost cutting again, although they have often used this casting for emergency models in the past.

For an emergency/rescue type model they could have just printed ranger or something under the trees logo instead of whatever that is they wrote there.

The days of separate light bars on Matchbox are gone. Buy up the older emergency releases of this Expedition that came with separate light bars. If this model is ever amended back to having a light bar, it will be in the form of a sunroof cutout and lights molded in with the window piece.

That's too bad, but good advice.
