Has anyone found a way to get the tampos off of the PREMIUM hotwheels cars? So many good cars ruined by silly tampos. I'm talking about the premium cars--like the entertainment ones. How do you get this stuff off??? People say they're tampos covered by clearcoat, but they seem more like decals. I was succesfull in scratching part of one off, but it took forever. Help please if anyone has found a way to get these things off. |

I am pretty sure all diecast are tampo printed, applying decals would take to many steps. Decals are made the same way so it is easier to just print on the car than to print the decal, have to soak the decal and slide it onto the car, blot it dry and wait for it to completely dry before being able to apply the gloss coat. Tampo printing can print on any surface, doesn't have to be flat. |

So, anyway, I just gave up trying to remove the tampos, and bush painted on a primer and then an appropriate colored hobby paint which I covered over with a clear coat to make it match the rest of the car. I am, however, an S gauge model railroad guy, and I am happy if the car passes the "3 foot test", i.e. the car looks okay on the layout from 3 feet away, and, I am not sure my handiwork would look good in a close up photo.
