More minivans. But then they are so common - like station wagons were years ago - this is a nice version of the Odyssey from Hot Wheels. Will confess, when I first glanced at the picture I was thinking a Tomica model but knew the wheels didn't look right.

I know I have a non-premium issue of this laying around somewhere (in Honda Racing Team colors if I'm not mistaken). We've went from station wagons, to minivans, to giant 3/4 ton truck (F-250/2500) sized SUVs with people who really can't drive them and try to run everyone else off the road. Nothing good ever happens after midnight.

Even though I hate minivans with the heat of a thousand suns, I broke down and bought this one. My son filled me in on the history of the real one. |

The roof really kills it for me. Otherwise it is very nice. |

This is tied for my favourite model out of the Cargo Carriers release. Yes, the Skyline wagon takes all the hype, but I love how close to stock this thing looks (even though it is based off of a non-stock version). Take away the rear window tampoes, and this could easily pass as an everyday vehicle. In the Honda 70th set, there was a silver Odyssey released - and I love it because it is, again, close to stock. Such a shame that I wasn't able to find that set around here. |

Long ago, I wrote off the idea of having a modern North American version of the Odyssey available in small scale. Each generation of the smaller Japanese Odyssey van gets made by Tomica, but a North American Odyssey or Toyota Sienna? Never thought I'd see one. And it blows my mind to think that Hot Wheels is the brand that made it happen. As stunned as I was with the initial mainline casting with the plastic bumpers, this refined casting with bumpers cast in metal with the rest of the body, is just the bees-knees for me. |

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!

I just think of it as one of those storage containers tied to the roof racks, like you sometimes see on vehicles when their owners are taking a long trip. As a kid I used to call them the "500 piece Chicken McNugget containers" (more like 50,000, but hey, as a kid 500 is a lot! ), and I can still remember seeing a '71-'73 Mustang (of all things!) with one on its roof somewhere in North Jersey ~thirty years ago.As for the rest, it looks pleasingly stock to me. And in all honesty, of modern minivans, the Honda is the one with the most quirky appeal to me (with the dipping beltline). The fact that Hot Wheels made it actually doesn't surprise me. Hot Wheels has a history of making minivans, from the Ford Aerostar, to the Lumina 'Dustbuster', to the Dodge Caravan. Adding this Odyssey to the list doubles the amount of Matchbox minivans I can think of off the top of my head (original Caravan with sliding door and the Nissan Prairie, if there are others they're slipping my mind at the moment). It's probably a safe bet we won't be seeing minivans added to the casting inventory of GreenLight, Auto World, or Johnny Lightning any time soon. Of course, Tomica will always be the king of minivans in small scale. |

Hot Wheels minivans? Don't forget that travesty they made of the Corvair Greenbrier a couple of years back. Yeah, I bought one of them just to say I had one but, man, that thing is AWFUL! I'd love to see someone put out a stock (or stock-ish) Greenbrier, but we all know that's not about to happen. Matchbox, are you listening? You gave us a '59 Chevy wagon a couple of years ago, why not a 'Brier??? |
