Today's car of the day is Playart's 1977 Lamborghini Silhouette.

Wikipedia

The Lamborghini Silhouette P300 is a two-door two-seat mid-engined rear-wheel drive sports car, that was made in small numbers by Lamborghini between 1976 and 1979. Officially presented at the 1976 Geneva Auto Show, the Silhouette began as a styling exercise by noted Italian Carrozzeria Bertone. It was based on the earlier Lamborghini Urraco, but was distinguished from the Urraco by more angular styling. The Silhouette was the first Lamborghini to employ a targa top roof. The Silhouette later evolved into the similar looking but more successful Lamborghini Jalpa. The car had a 3.0-litre all-aluminum alloy Lamborghini V8 internal-combustion engine mounted transversely behind the driver. Of the 54 units built (12 with right-hand drive), 31 are currently known to exist. Official performance figures indicate the Silhouette could complete the 0 to 100 kilometers per hour (0.0 to 62.1 mph) sprint in 6.5 seconds, 0 to 100 miles per hour (0 to 161 km/h) in 16.1 seconds, and could reach a top speed of 260 kilometers per hour (160 mph).

This Playart Lamborghini shares the limelight with another Italian exotic which was run as COTD ten years ago today.

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
Still trying to decide if this was a real car, or Playart just made it look like something else. If they did the latter, what could it be?

I see that car of the week was one by two beaters, and station wagons to boot....
and they both deserve it!!

I have always liked those wheels that Playart used after they had to drop the hubs - but then this one would not have looked right with the those - for Playart not bad, not bad at all!

You're in luck! This casting was in the lineup long enough for Playart to include at least three different wheel designs on it.

But unfortunately, none of the three come close to the 5-hole style wheels that were fitted on the original Silhouette.

I like seeing these more obscure supercars done in scale. Then I see it's 0-60 (OK, 62.1) is 6.5 seconds. I've never timed my Cobalt SS officially, but I don't think this Lambo would be any more than a length or two in front of me at 60. Whatever the case, the Silhouette is still an interesting subject for one of our little cars, and I'm sort of surprised that one of the bigger names in the hobby didn't do it too. I could easily imagine Matchbox doing it, for example. After all, they did give us the Marzal show car.

Playart covered the Marzal as well, and the Carabo. This reminds me of the Spicup...that is one bizarre car covered by Playart.
