I was very surprised how easily the bird tampo came off the hood of this Firebird with this dry-erase marker...

Along the lines of "who was the first guy who ever thought of eating a chicken egg?", what would make you think of trying the marker to remove the deco? B)

I never would have thought of trying that myself, but it sure looks like it works.

Taking the bird off is the only way to go. It doesn't look right n the Formula's scooped hood. BTW, that's the same brand of dry erase marker that I use, but I'm looking for others. It seems to run dry too fast.

*RV*: Remember to use only a DRY ERASE marker. All a regular marker will do is ruin your car!

Huh, that's a very neat trick. Might be because the dry-erase has a solvent in the ink, like alcohol, that helps remove the tampo? Not sure. Anyway, now I'll have to try this myself. SO many diecast ruined by over-zealous tampos. Sheesh....

Try it out on a car that doesn't mean too much to you to get the feel of the process. Let the solvent in the ink do the work; don't rub too heavily. It does work better on some cars than others.

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
Very nice trick/tip, Steve. I've been using an old model railroader's trick, 91% alcohol from Walmart. I'll try your marker tip soon.

Neat! I hope I remember this trick whenever I get back around to customizing and needing to clean off tampos.

Hmm, this will be attempted today...I've burned through too much paint on some tampo removal projects with q-tips and nail polish remover. This looks a lot safer to the base coat paint.
